Sicilians are a romantic lot and they love St. Valentine’s Day. Rather than give their girlfriend sweets or champagne, most Sicilian men are more likely to take her out for a delicious organic Italian ice-cream.
What better way to wish all my readers Happy Valentine’s Day than by sharing this marvellous advertisement I saw in our local ice-cream parlour?

You should see some of the astonishing things people in Sicily walk around with, written on their chests and backsides! One of my favourites so far was “kangaroo seducer” stretched around a middle aged man’s paunch.

These translations are always funny. When we traveled in China it was even worse — their signs made no sense whatsoever. Please hold your childrens’ hands became (literally) When with old show grace up.

I never cease to be amazed by the shortcuts people take for their advertising. Getting the English checked wouldn’t have cost them much, whereas advertising like that will cost them a mint in terms of lost clients and ridicule… sigh.
