Comedy novel ‘The Dangerously Truthful Diary of a Sicilian Housewife’ gets rave reviews

front cover

“Veronica Di Grigoli’s book The Dangerously truthful diary of a Sicilian Housewife takes us on her own personal odyssey, navigating through many monstrosities, perils and everyday adventures along the way.

The diary is filled with biting wit, an astute knack for observation and a powerful sense of determination which makes it a joy to read. Di Grigoli’s strong personality comes out as she deftly sketches out the intricacies of life on the complex island of Sicily at the heart of the Mediterranean.”

What happens when a London business consultant becomes a Sicilian housewife?

Veronica has just dumped the world’s worst boyfriend and plans to become a career spinster. But when she flies to Sicily for a friend’s wedding, she accidentally falls in love with one of the groom’s three-hundred cousins.

She plucks up the courage to leave her family, friends, job, house, car and collection of seventies disco albums, and moves to a fishing village in northern Sicily with a population of two hundred people dressed in golden trainers.

First, her rosary-flailing Mother-in-law throws down the gauntlet or, rather, the rubber glove. Can Veronica live up to the standards of a Sicilian housewife? Crocifissa is a mother-in-law who owns a pasta saucepan big enough to boil Silvio Berlusconi, an iron hot enough to smelt platinum, and a collection of cleaning chemicals which can dissolve the glaze off the floor tiles. She is godmother to seven children. The Godmother.

Next, Veronica finds out her seaside dream villa is being constructed by the Mafia. The building contractor drops in carrying a hammer, threatening the house will collapse on top of her unless she pays him more money “to finish it properly”.

Can Veronica solve her problems by pitching one adversary against another? Join her on an unpredictable journey of hilarity, reckless driving and dangerously large portions of spaghetti.

“The Dangerously Truthful Diary of a Sicilian Housewife” is an almost true travel-novel, for people who need more belly-laughs.

“I bought a Kindle copy of this wonderful book and downloaded it some time ago onto my husband’s Kindle in anticipation of a long aeroplane ride that didn’t materialize… when I finally dug up his Kindle I sat down on the floor (next to the charger) and started reading… and reading… and laughing and laughing. I had to tear myself away in order to save some for my trip tomorrow but this is a gem of a book that reminds me, in all the very best ways, of one of my favourite traveling authors Gerald Durrell.

Veronica Di Grigoli brings Sicily to hilarious and colourfully informative life – I’m only sorry that I’m not traveling there tomorrow!

It’s very hard to write humor well, but she does it extraordinarily and effortlessly well. She also has a wonderful blog that you should rush over and read as soon as possible!”

  9. The book sounds like something that I just have to get. I love funny real life stories even if the truth has been stretched a bit or maybe not. 🙂

    1. Nearly everything is true, it’s just exaggerated and blown up out of all proportion.
Interestingly several of the literary agents who read it thought the last chapter was too far-fetched and spoiled it by over-exaggeration – which is funny since it’s the only part which I did not exagerate in any way, I basically translated and paraphrased the newspaper reports. But I don’t want to give you any plot spoilers! 😉

      1. Wouldn’t you know the agents would have to put their finger in the pie? That’s funny for sure about the part that was really factual.

      2. Yes! I am waiting to hear how the people’s who’ve bought the book react to that part….

    1. Oh, that’s Amazon’s bizarre trick to make you think it is in massive demand. I have no idea why they thought of doing something so silly.
If you just go ahead and order it anyway, it comes within the normal time period!!!!
