A year or two ago, there used to be a painted cart outside the Cathedral. Wasn’t that something to do with Santa Rosalia?
Also, I seem to remember there’s a picture of a man who was killed by the Mafia in the North aisle who had done some good works for the community but I can’t remember the exact story?
Maybe that was Padre Puglisi? I remember a temporary exhibition there about him in the cathedral, so I wonder if they left his picture there?
I am planning a post about him based on that exhibit, so when you see the photos you may be able to tell me!
He was the priest in Brancaccio (where my husband grew up) and he started a youth club in the church to give the young lads a place to go for good examples, homework help, encouragement and something constructive to do. The Mafia shot him in the back because he was steering the young boys away from joining their ranks. Previous priests in that area had deferred to them and allowed them to walk at the head of the annual parish festival, showing that they were more important than the church and more powerful than god.

Btw yes, the cart was from one of the festivals of Santa Rosalia. I think they kept it there for two years but I am not sure where it went after that.
