Thank you! I am glad you liked the post. I am not a full time fashionista, but I absolutely love these Dolce and Gabbanna Sicilian colelctions. Have you seen the summer 2014 one? They’ve gone Sicilian again…. this time with ancient temples, coins from Syracuse, and orange blossom.

I, myself, have just moved to Sicily but I am down at the very south. I have been here a week and moved due to relocation of my boyfriends job in Pozzallo. We should be here for around a year or so. Previously lived in Singapore for 2 years but originally from Scotland, I have had a big culture shock as I’m sure you remember!!

Oh I LOVE Singapore! Youears ago I had a Singaporean boyfriend and I used to stop off there regularly before heading forth to other exciting places in South East Asia, with less plumbing.
I was talking to an American friend about boredom in Sicily just this weekend. One generation ago Sicilian women were literally not allowed out of the house without a chaperone, often even the married ones. You have to imagine them living just like Arab women minus the hijab.
Now that they have more superficial freedom, they don’t know how to use it. I was told by a young Sicilian guy recently that Sicilian girls in bars never laugh or show they are having fun, as people will spread gossip that they’re slutty.
I think this is the reason why every foreign woman I know in Sicily has plunged into severe depression at some time or another.
My two best suggestions are, first, go mad on tourism and sightseeing because Sicily is literally packed with amazing attractions, and secondly to start networking for all you’re worth among expats.

Hope all is tranquil on your Sicilian Sunday over there. I have a question for you which I would REALLY appreciate your help with! How did you obtain and display your Freshly Pressed badge?? My post ‘Sunshine State of Mind’ was featured on Freshly Pressed a few months ago, and I want to join the club in wearing a badge on my site, proudly! But I don’t know how to do it. Because I am rubbish at computers.

Love your blog. A very fun read. We are in the process of packing our bags to come to Sicily September 6 for the first time for a vacation. A long trip from Minnesota in the U.S. I am looking for good tips on what to do, eat, see, and buy that is unique to Sicily. So, your blog has pointed me in some new directions.

We are a family of 4 living in Southern Italy. Since we’re visiting Sicily this weekend, I’m trying to do some research about the island. I looked at a bunch of maps with indications that roads were under construction, so I searched “sicily roads” to try and get a feel for which roads may have detours. Your site popped up and what a delightful 1/2 hour I’ve just had, sipping my tea, laughing hysterically, and alternately shaking and nodding my head. Thanks for the great information on the island and good chuckle this morning!

Really enjoyed reading some if your blogs!
Me and my boyfriend have some time on our hands on march/april and are thinking of spending a month in sicily with our two small children (who will then be 4 and almost one year old). Two questions : do you think sicily is a good idea with such small kids? And secondly, do you have any tips on a small village preferably in the northwest, where one could stay comfortably, for a month? We would want some village with a local markets, maybe a playground, etc.

I think Sicily is the best place in the world for bringing small children as everyone in the community makes a fuss of them, bends over backwards to help you in restaurants etc. Sicilians are absolutely lovely to all children and always help the parents.
There are lots of villages in the nirth west, there’s Santa Flavia which is really nice and I have friends who rent out some holiday apartments there which have just been fully refurbished adn are extremely nice, let me know if you’d like to be put in touch.
There’s also Aspra which has two little kiddy play areas and several beaches.
St Elia and Porticella are two more fishing villages which are very nice, though perhaps with less for little children.
You could go further along the coast to Cefalù which is lovely, though extremely touristy which is fun for a little while but might get rather annoying for a longer stay.
