We have such a severe rubbish problem in our town that the council is thinking of ways to put it to good use.
This is the Christmas tree outside the town hall, made from plastic bottles.

Spent two marvelous weeks crossing Sicily east to west, and our only complaint (aside from some hysterically incorrect directions from GPS) was the rubbish along the roads. Such a beautiful country, it seems there has to be a solution. In the US there are volunteers and some paid jobs for teenagers to remove litter from cities and roadsides. A Sicilian friend from Palermo says the politicians are just disinterested and there is no money. We will be back, keep up the good fight with posts such as this!!!

It’s true the old politicians were disinterested, they gave outsourcing contracts to their friends who just pocketed the money!
We have the Movimento Cinque Stelle in power here now in my council, so we hope they will change things…..

Yes, the tree is pretty. It’s so pretty that I think we should make an entire town council out of plastic garbage. As they would not be able to do anything they would be far better than their live counterparts as well as being incorruptible. What do you think?
