“The diary is filled with biting wit, an astute knack for observation and a powerful sense of determination which makes it a joy to read. Di Grigoli’s strong personality comes out as she deftly sketches out the intricacies of life on the complex island of Sicily at the heart of the Mediterranean.”

Career-girl Veronica flies to Sicily for a friend’s wedding, hardly expecting to fall in love with one of the groom’s three-hundred cousins. Yet a year later she is living in the shimmering heat of Sicily with her Latin Lover.

She suspects her seaside dream-villa is being built by the Mafia when the foreman visits, brandishing a hammer and demanding money.

Then her rosary-flailing Mother-in-law throws down the gauntlet: Can Veronica live up to the standards of a Sicilian housewife? She’ll have to scrub floors with ammonia and iron underpants to win this duel fought with wooden spoons.

Resourceful Veronica works out how to solve all her problems by pitching one adversary against another, embarking on an unpredictable adventure of hilarity, reckless driving and dangerously large portions of spaghetti.

This belly-laugh of a novel exposes the staggering, perplexing and often hilarious reality of life in Sicily.

  1. Absolutely fantastic!!! Laughed so loudly on a recent flight home that the flight attendants and other passengers nearby looked at me strangely. Love, love your writing with all of its elegant descriptions and of course “slight exaggerations” (maybe they are not exaggerations…)

    1. I am so glad to hear you’re enjoying it! 😀 Please go around laughing loudly in public as much as you like – it’s all good publicity!

OK, I admit there are a few slight exaggerations here and there! Oddly enough, the part two agents thought was too far etched is true with no embellishment at all! (the newspaper part – I literally just translated the newspaper!)

Please would you be kind enough to post a review on Amazon?

      1. I have posted a stellar review on Amazon!!! I think I mentioned that I bought both the paperback (so I could loan it out easily to my friends in my Italian language group) and the Kindle version. Our teacher is Sicilian and know she will love it even though she came to the US at the age of 16. All of my knowledge of Sicilian parolacci have come from Gilma!!! Of course, this “knowledge” made the watching of all of the Montalbano episodes far more enjoyable!!!

    1. Thank you!

Have you written more/published anything yet? I am still waiting to become your first customer!! Franky you could just scoop all your blog posts into a self published book and I would buy a copy ten copies for my family and put an advert on my blog as well!

Anyway, I hope all is going well with your kiddo…..

      1. Thanks Veronica!

I did actually write a book a while ago based on my blog but it has just been sitting in a metaphorical drawer for a couple of years. You have inspired me to finally try and do something with it. Will look into self publishing to avoid an undignified bidding war among rival publishers.

The kiddo is grand, thanks and was joined about two months ago by a baby brother kiddo! That’s partly why this comment on your blog is the longest thing I have written for quite a while.

Have just bought the Kindle version of your book and really looking forward to reading it!

      2. Congrats on the second kiddo!
And I hope you really enjoy my book 😀

Yes, I triggered an unseemly bidding war among rival publishers. It was nasty. You would do well to steer clear of such a potentially enriching situation.

For self publishing I recommend Amazon Createspace. They have their flaws but their distribution is the easiest/widest and it’s all a fairly simple process.
